Relocating can be difficult, particularly if you are no longer working or if you have left a community where you had long established friendships.
Whether you have just moved to Sarasota, or are just interested in developing a new circle of friends – and participate in a variety of activities, and entertainment – consider the Welcome Club or their sister club, Alums, Inc.
Membership is open to any resident who is ready to meet and greet at monthly luncheons held across the counties. Each luncheon get-together features a speaker with topics of interest to the group. Small activity groups are also formed for card parties, book clubs , movies and other activities.
Several annual events are offered, including the festive Holiday Party at a local Country Club and a Fashion Show. Join the group for concerts at the Van Wezel, or relax and enjoy the gulf views at Omelets on the Beach, have fun at the Ice Cream Social, Octoberfest or the Jimmy Buffett theme party.
“My husband and I moved around the country from Chicago to New Orleans, and to cities on the East Coast before moving to Sarasota. When I heard about these clubs, I joined the Welcome Club and later Alums. Over the years of participating in the events I’ve forged real friendships with like-minded people and have had a great time along the way.” member, Mary Davidson shared with us.
Members may also avail themselves of the special trips to such places as the Morse Museum in Winter Park to view the Tiffany collection, Clyde Butcher Photographic Studio In Venice, private tours of the Ca’d’zan, and the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, All of these excursion are planned by dedicated volunteers to make visits to these spots an easy, and fun thing to do with friends!
