Sarasota County is home to over 1000 nonprofits. From helping children, supporting the arts and underprivileged the field of 501(c)-3’s is wide. Vintage Paws, a new nonprofit focuses specifically on helping senior dogs.
Founder, Jennifer Hummel told us, the goal of Vintage Paws is to give senior and terminally-ill dogs a home of their own. Vintage Paws will provide a home to live out their remaining days, months or years. Vintage Paws will educate the public about caring for their senior dogs and ways to make the senior years more enjoyable for the dog and the owner. Vintage Paws will obtain pet therapy certification for eligible dogs so they may be ambassadors for senior dogs and provide therapy to nursing home residents, children and the community.
In her first 18 months of official service to the community, through Vintage Paws, Ms. Hummel and her team of volunteers has helped dozens of dogs. Successful fundraisers including a golf tournament and Strikes for Seniors a bowling tournament at AMF lanes have contributed to overall fund raising goals.
